Baiyue Tea Society is a tea membership organization consisting of local tribe's tea cooperatives, social enterprise and experts in the fields of sustainable development in North Vietnam.
Local tea farmers have been living in this region since 1000 BC and our society aims to secure their sustainable livelihood and promote the values of cultural heritage.
Ancient Tea Mountain Range of Baiyue Tribes
Covering an area of 7,929.48 km2, the mountain range is the most northern point of Vietnam, and often named the countries final frontier.
The Baiyue tea community comprises of many different ethnic minority groups working in the ancient tea mountain ange. Due to its high altitude, tea grown here drastically differs from low altitude tea, in both the quality of tea and the way its harvested.

Tea Farmers
Baiyue tea farmers have been living as descendants of Thần Nông (Shennong - Divine Farmer) family since ancient times, they believe that Shennong has been thought to have taught us practices of agriculture.
They have sustained the wild tea mountains for generations and hope continue to live well alongside these forests is key for long-term survival and well-being.
They have mixed elements of Buddhism with their traditional animistic beliefs, believe that souls or spirits exist in humans and animals, plants, rocks, geographic features such as mountains or rivers, or other entities of the natural environment.
Baiyue tea farmers are uniquely placed to bring the right partnerships together to achieve our vision of a thriving, socially just and environmentally sustainable tea products and culture.
Our ambassadors team make up an important piece in the correct running of the community. They are in charge of spreading the word and message of Baiyue Tea Society out to the world. Our ambassadors have all had first hand experience living in the community and are passionate about spreading the message of the Baiyue Tea Society.

Impact on Locals: As a company buys the land fit for tea harvesting, it cuts prices, forcing local tea harvesters out of business. The result? Farmers must work longer for the company at low wages, often less than $10 / day.
Impact on the Land: Instead of harvesting naturally from the forest, corporations will clear cut the mountain to make way for tea plants. Often, natural trees like the fairy tea tree will be cut down and stripped instead of naturally harvested

They grew rice on burned land and flooded fields and raised buffaloes, goat, horse, pigs and harvest, produce precious tea, herbal medicine.
Without the hard work of our talented locals and generations of experience, the Baiyue Tea Society would not be what it is today.
